An enraged Singaporean customer threw racial slurs at a caucasian after he stepped in to defend a sales assistant on Thursday at StarHub, here at the Tiong Bahru Plaza.
According to multiple sources, the caucasian man stepped in to defend a StarHub staff who was being physically and verbally abused by a customer, as shown by a minute long video-clip taken on scene by bystanders.
The man was seen expressing his anger by throwing obscenities and insulting gestures to both the staff and the foreigner.
The caucasian man, identified as Justin A. Farren, stated that the man pushed the female sales assistant repeatedly, and that there were no security guards nearby to dissipate the physical altercation, which he, among many other social media users who have seen the now-viral video, believed could have escalated. The altercation was finally extinguished after Farren eventually handed over the aggressor to the police.
‘It was my first true experience with racism towards me in Singapore, ‘ he stated ‘ I have lived here almost five years and love it very much and am proud to call it home’
Meanwhile, Farren, who had every right to be angry, showed great sympathy and strong virtues when he pleaded to the public to take it easy on the raging man in question, saying that he believes the man is mentally unstable.
The public, however, was provoked by the man’s impudent act. A comment on the post even stated that the aggressor was a ‘total disgrace’. Despite the outrage of most Interweb users, most of the thousands upon thousands of comments applauded Mr. Farren’s bravery for defending the staff in need.
‘Things like this (the incident) are rare in Singapore.’ Mr. Farren added. ‘Consider yourselves very lucky.’
StarHub has yet to release a statement regarding the incident.
