As a result of the abhorrent rise in traffic congestion over the years, fused with the scorching hot Malaysian weather, more and more road rage incidents are reported every day. For some, road rage incidents are merely just ‘news’, and many, would never for the life of them, ever imagine getting involved in one.
However, earlier today an elderly woman was reminded of the harsh reality of ‘the streets’ after she was pinned down and assaulted by another younger woman here at the TTDI market parking lot for ‘not reversing her car’.
Wong, the 70-year-old victim was looking for a parking spot at the TTDI market parking lot when suddenly, the car in front of her, who was also looking for a parking spot, slammed its brakes while negotiating a turn, before trying to reverse back down to a vacant parking spot the driver had missed. However, the car couldn’t back up any further as Wong’s car was in the way.
The younger woman driver of the car ahead, got out of her car and knocked on Wong’s car window, demanding that Wong give leeway to her to enter the missed parking spot, or else she would ram her car into Wong’s Perodua Myvi.
Wong was boxed in, and had no room to move her car back as there were other cars in the queue behind. Wong tried explaining the situation to the younger woman, but to no avail.
The younger woman got back into her car, put her car into reverse, and floored the pedal, ramming into Wong’s car. Eventually, motorists who witnessed the collision from behind the queue started backing away, giving room for Wong to back her car up.
The younger woman then finally got leeway and parked her car into the vacant parking slot in question.
Wong, then got out of her car and started to take photos of the incident, but the hell-bent younger woman lashed out, came at Wong, pinned her to the ground before trying to grab the mobile phone from her, screaming at Wong to delete the photos.
Bystanders who witnessed the whole fiasco tried to come to Wong’s aid, but the younger woman refused to let got of Wong, only releasing her after 15 minutes.
When contacted; Eugene, who is Wong’s son, told us that Wong has since received medical attention for her bruises, but is still shaken by the whole ordeal. He also adds that a police report has been filed regarding the incident.
One may think that Wong would be infuriated by the whole incident- but Wong, who has a heart of gold, told us that she forgives the young woman in question and will not be pressing charges. Additionally, Wong’s son adds that the police report was filed merely for their ‘protection’, in case the woman in question tried to make a different claim to the version of events that happened.
There is no doubt that this was a deplorable, random act of violence for — at the end of the day — a very petty reason.
