KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Government has declared Dec 13th as a state holiday to allow the people to celebrate Sultan Muhammad V’s journey to the state capital to take up the post of Agong.
He said that the holiday, which falls next Tuesday, was meant to enable Tuanku Muhammad Faris Petra Sultan Ismail Petra, or Sultan Muhammad V, to meet his subjects before he departs for Kuala Lumpur to be ceremoniously installed as the 15th Yang diPertuan Agong, replacing Sultan Kedah Tuanku Abdul Halim ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah.
The publicity-shy Sultan Muhammad V, 47, who is a bachelor, ascended the throne of Kelantan on Sept 13, 2010, replacing his father Sultan Ismail Ibni Sultan Yahya Petra as the 29th Sultan of Kelantan after the latter was incapacitated by illness.
Ahmad said he and state dignitaries would be accompanying Sultan Muhammad V to Kuala Lumpur.
Meanwhile, earlier Wednesday, the Office of the Chief Secretary to the Government denied it had issued a statement declaring Dec 13 a federal public holiday, as reported on social media.
