KUALA LUMPUR: A 30-year-old man was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase here.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm R. Munusamy said the incident occurred at around 2.20pm on Tuesday.
“We received information from our personnel on patrol along the third mile of Jalan Ipoh that they were chasing a black Proton Perdana with two men inside.
“Our personnel initially attempted to stop the car for a routine check but they sped off,” he said, adding that two other patrol cars joined the pursuit.
The chase ended 20 minutes later when the Proton Perdana was involved in an accident with multiple vehicles near a restaurant along the MRR2 near Taman Layang Layang.
“A policeman fired shots at the vehicle and managed to cripple it.
“We managed to arrest one of the men but the other managed to escape.
“A check on the vehicle revealed packets containing a powder believed to be drugs,” he said, adding that the arrested suspect worked as a general assistant for a quasi-government agency.
ACP Munusamy said the suspect did not have a previous criminal record.
He urged anyone with information on the case to contact the police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or visit the nearest police station.
